background? Who raises them? Where do they go?
Thakkar Bapa Ashram Shala, is home to 110 children whose life speaks an
unusual narrative. This school was started in 1952 for children whose
parents have been involved in unlawful activities. However, today some
students who live here also belong to very poor economic background. Some
of them are there because they have either lost their parents or their
parents cannot afford to raise them anymore.
Currently, the school has standards 1st to 7th. The same area that is
used as classrooms during daytime, becomes residential bedrooms during
night time. As the school is not funded too well, the administration makes
ends meet facing many challenges.
What will we do?
We wish to celebrate a day with the children where they feel genuinely
loved and cared for. A day full of fun and laughter, that they would remember
for a long time to come. We have arranged for meditation, live music,
energizing games, insightful workshops, fun gifts and a magician. We would
be happy to get your inputs. So please get in touch with us if you have
any other ideas.
Nuts
and Bolts: We would need quite a few volunteers
to make this day come alive. This school is located in the Naroda Area.
Because it is so far, very few NGO's have connected with it. If you are
interested in volunteering, you can arrive at Gandhi Ashram by 11.15am.
A vehicle will be arranged for the volunteers to go to Naroda and back.
The drive will take about 30 minutes. Light snacks will be provided for
volunteers. Please make sure you let us know if you are coming.
