Tell us if you will be there

Some sixty years ago in India, a small brown man, wearing white loin-cloth, rocked the nation with a single pinch of salt. Even today he continues to ignite our mind and awaken our soul. He lives on in our hearts, in a place where truth and compassion reside.

October 2nd will be a special day for many across the globe. It is Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday and also declared by the UN General Assembly as the International Day of Non-Violence.

In a meaningful way, the entire Shvaas philosophy can be captured in his simple quote, “Be the Change you wish to see in the world.” As a tribute to him, we will be celebrating this day with children from the Naroda Ashramshala. (http://shvaas.org/ashramshala.php).

We will meet at 4.15pm at the Gandhi Ashram. All the 125 children will arrive by 4.30pm. We will sit in silence and offer our respect to Gandhiji. At 5.00pm we will take them to the Vastrapur Park, where our friends at Aproch have put together a fun-filled evening for the children of our city.

Also rest assured, some mind-bending Gandhigiri will be in the works!

A Talisman by Mahatma Gandhi
I will give you a talisman. Whenever you are in doubt, or when the self becomes too much with you, apply the following test. Recall the face of the poorest and the weakest man whom you may have seen, and ask yourself, if the step you contemplate is going to be of any use to him. Will he gain anything by it? Will it restore him to a control over his own life and destiny? In other words, will it lead to Swaraj for the hungry and the spiritually starving millions? Then you will find your doubt and your self melting away.
